三岁男童突瘫痪，医生查不出原因——原来是「祖灵作祟」！

Every time I meet Master Mei, it’s to handle a spiritual case. Master Mei says doing meaningful things brings great fulfillment. As soon as we met, she asked me to hold two copper coins and inquired if my grandmother had gone to practice at Guanyin Bodhisattva’s temple in the South China Sea. After repeated questioning, we learned that some ancestors held grievances, secretly interfering and obstructing her journey.

Upon asking Guanyin Bodhisattva to investigate, we discovered that my grandfather had done something wrong in his lifetime: he left two children behind with no one willing to raise them, and they ultimately starved to death as infants. My grandmother confirmed this—she only found out after passing away, when she saw my grandfather letting the two children stay in our family home.

Master Mei explained that these two were infant victims (referred to as “daofang” in Taiwanese, meaning children who died young). My grandfather and their birth mother were entangled in karmic debts, which led to misfortunes in this lifetime. On reflection, ancestral issues truly affect future generations, and it matters greatly whether ancestors cultivated virtue during their lives. If one passes away with resentment, their relatives and descendants will never live in peace.

Grandmother couldn’t let go of her worries about my parents and me. She feared that the karma and transgressions my grandfather had accumulated would be passed down to us descendants, so she couldn’t rest assured to practice at Guanyin Bodhisattva’s temple. Master Mei said that my grandfather’s karma would be borne by the person he loved most in his life and who inherited the most of his property—and this couldn’t have been more accurate.

Zhong Kui, the celestial magistrate of the Underworld, was present to witness the entire case handling process. Master Mei then entrusted the spirits of the two deceased children to the Underworld for proper disposal. Out of compassion, Master Mei communicated with my grandmother in Taiwanese, as people of her generation couldn’t understand Mandarin. Later, I repeatedly told grandmother to rest easy: being qualified to practice at Guanyin Bodhisattva’s temple was an extremely rare opportunity, and she shouldn’t cling to so many worries. Finally, grandmother felt relieved and agreed.

Master Mei also shared another case of “ancestors harming their own grandson.” One afternoon in the autumn of 2003, a middle-aged woman anxiously rushed to Master Mei’s home seeking help. She said her younger sister’s son (her nephew), who was over three years old and usually healthy and lively, had suddenly been unable to get out of bed to walk five days earlier, when she went to wake him up for kindergarten.

At first, she thought the child was throwing a tantrum, so she picked him up and put him down on the floor to walk on his own. But the child fell after standing for less than a few seconds, and still couldn’t stand despite several attempts. She hurriedly took him to the hospital, where doctors performed various examinations and X-rays. The conclusion was that there was nothing physically wrong with the child; they told her to take him home for observation, saying he might recover in a day or two.

After waiting two days and seeing no improvement, she took the child to a major hospital for a full-body examination and more X-rays. Again, the doctors confirmed there were no abnormalities. What made her most distraught was that when she told her family the doctors’ findings, instead of comforting her, they blamed her for being overly anxious, wasting money on multiple hospitals, and failing to take good care of the child.

She was so desperate that she told her elder sister: if the child remained paralyzed and couldn’t be cured, she wanted to die with him. Her elder sister urged her not to lose hope and introduced her to Master Mei. After agreeing to take the case, Master Mei accompanied them to the child’s home.

The child’s mother was in poor health, having barely slept or eaten for days. As soon as Master Mei entered the house with the elder sister, she eagerly detailed the child’s condition and showed the hospital’s medical reports. Master Mei reassured her: “Don’t worry—your child will be able to stand up and walk soon.”

After asking for the child’s name and age (no birth date or time was needed), Master Mei began investigating the case. After a short while, she asked the mother: “Are the child’s paternal grandparents still alive?” The woman replied softly, afraid others in the family might hear: “Both my parents-in-law have passed away.”

In fact, as soon as Master Mei stepped into the mother and son’s home, she had seen an old woman staring fiercely at her and gesturing as if to hit the child’s mother. Using her “mind-reading ability,” she instructed celestial soldiers to break the ghostly old woman’s limbs and force her to kneel outside the door—afraid the ghost might cause trouble and harm those present.

Immediately, they heard the ghostly old woman roar: “I refuse to accept this!” She shouted angrily: “This is my house! Outsiders mind your own business, or else I’ll…” Nearly 100% of the time Master Mei handled cases, she encountered such threatening remarks from spirits. She was 早已 accustomed to it, but still took necessary precautions.

Master Mei asked again: “Your mother-in-law never wanted you to marry her son, did she?” The woman looked shocked and asked how Master Mei knew. Master Mei replied: “That ghost has been living in this house since she died. It’s her who made your child unable to walk.”

The woman couldn’t believe it at first: “How could she hurt her own grandson?” But she quickly grew anxious—if the ghost was living in the house, she feared she would never have a peaceful life and dared not say more. Master Mei told her not to worry, explaining that only by telling the truth could she help mother and son. After asking several questions that only the woman knew the answers to, she finally trusted Master Mei and continued speaking.

It turned out that her mother-in-law had strongly opposed her marriage to her son. She had originally favored a wealthy young lady introduced by relatives and looked down on the woman, who was just a migrant worker from the countryside. But her son insisted on not marrying the wealthy young lady, and when the woman became pregnant, they married as a matter of course.

After learning she was carrying a baby boy, she had happily thought that her mother-in-law would stop opposing and resenting her. She never imagined that her mother-in-law, who had treated her badly in life, would still hate her so much after death—and even try to cripple her own grandson.

At that moment, the ghostly old woman roared again: “No matter what, I hate you with all my heart! I hate your child too—I don’t recognize him as my grandson! I’ll make your son a cripple, so you’ll divorce my son and leave with the child! Then my son can marry a wealthy woman!”

Master Mei scolded the ghost fiercely: “Malicious spirit, you scoundrel who harms your own grandson! Since you refuse to rest even in death, you shall be tried by the Underworld and reincarnated as an animal for several lifetimes!” She immediately instructed the celestial soldiers to take the evil ghost away and hand her over to the Underworld for punishment.

The woman then asked how the ghost had made her son unable to walk. Master Mei explained: the ghost had asked a sorcerer friend who had lived next door during his lifetime to cast a spell. The sorcerer had inserted “ghost nails” on both sides of the child’s lumbar spine, which made him unable to stand. If left untreated, his muscles and nerves would gradually atrophy, leaving him permanently crippled.

The woman exclaimed excitedly: “Yes! That’s right! There used to be a private shrine right across the street from our house, and the Taoist priest there practiced Maoshan magic. My mother-in-law used to go there all the time—she even made us burn talismans and drink talisman water, saying it would protect our safety.”

Master Mei further instructed the Underworld to severely punish both the evil ghost and the sorcerer—evil spirits who continued to do harm even after death would not be spared. She then told the woman to hold the child on a chair. Master Mei cleared away the negative energy from the child’s body, blessed him with positive energy, and also healed and blessed the woman.

Miraculously, after about half an hour, the child was able to stand up and take a few steps. Because the ghost nails had been in his body for several days, his muscles and nerves hadn’t atrophied yet, but he still needed a day or two of rest to fully recover. The mother also said she could clearly feel her complexion becoming ruddy and healthy.

Master Mei then asked if any of the child’s other ancestors held grievances. All the other ancestors replied that the ghostly old woman had been arrogant and domineering in life, greedy for money, and disrespectful to her elders—no one had been willing to associate with the evil woman. They said it was a great relief that someone had finally dealt with her and saved the younger generation.

The case was ultimately resolved successfully. Master Mei said that when handling spiritual cases, every detail must be carefully arranged. Judgments cannot be based on personal opinions or emotions; otherwise, any mistakes would result in bearing heavier karmic consequences, punishment, and paying a steep price.
